How to Quit Disposables: A Guide to Disposable Alternatives
With the disposable vape ban coming into force imminently (as soon as April 2025), you might be wondering how you’ll cope without your beloved Crystal bars. Many of our customers have shared the same concerns.
This ban presents an excellent opportunity for quitting smoking and vaping altogether. Embracing smoking cessation can significantly improve your health and quality of life. It’s also important to consider mental health in the quitting process and utilize available quitting resources such as therapy and professional support.
To help you make a seamless switch, we’ve come up with a few different options ready for when the UK enacts the ban.
Pod Systems to Switch from Disposables for Smoking Cessation
The most cost-effective solution is to switch to a refillable pod system. These simple devices allow you to refill the pod with an e-liquid of your choice, making it easier to choose the right nicotine strength for your needs.
Typically, pod devices work best with a higher PG liquid, at least 50% (more on this in our How to Start Vaping guide). Switching to pod systems can also help manage nicotine intake by allowing you to gradually reduce the nicotine strength of your e-liquid which is ideal if you are trying to quit vaping or just reduce nicotine intake.
These devices are also rechargeable, making them much less harmful to the environment and your wallet! Additionally, switching to pod systems can be a step towards quitting vaping by helping you control and reduce your nicotine consumption.
Disposable Flavoured E-Liquid for Disposable Vapes
One common question we get asked is, “Can I have the same strong flavours?” The simple answer is yes. While traditional e-liquids may not be as strong or sweet as disposables, there’s a reason for this: an artificial sweetener called Neotame.
We explore this in more detail in our article about disposable flavours. Additionally, flavoured e-liquids can help manage nicotine withdrawal symptoms by providing a satisfying alternative to smoking.
At Dispergo, we recommend our own disposable-inspired flavours range called Baa Juice which is available in several nicotine strengths utilising nicotine salts. This range is very cost-effective compared to most e-liquids on the market. Made by us here in the UK, it comes with the Dispergo risk-free guarantee.
Other good alternatives include Bar Juice 5000 and Elfliq, which are designed to taste very similar to your beloved disposables. For those looking for other options, nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) can be an effective alternative to flavoured e-liquids. Nicotine patches, as part of NRT, can help manage withdrawal symptoms by providing a consistent dose of nicotine. It is advisable to consult a healthcare professional to find the right dosage and start NRT on the day of quitting vaping.
When choosing your flavour, we recommend a 10mg nic salt. Although most disposables are 20mg/ml (or 2%), the power output is typically much lower than that of a pod device. Using something like an Xros with a 10mg/ml nic salt is more likely to give you a similar nicotine fix as a disposable.
You may be looking at all this information and wondering where to start. The easiest and simplest way is our Disposable Quit Kit, which includes 3 bottles of juice (equivalent to 15 disposables), a device, and a pack of pods that should last you at least a fortnight. There is also a bundle discount available.
Multi-Pod Disposables
Since the ban was announced, certain disposable vape manufacturers have released multi-pod disposables, such as the Crystal 4in1 kit, which is effectively a 2,400 big puff disposable. These devices can be a useful tool for those looking to quit vaping disposables, as they allow you to replace the pods once they burn out and carry 4 pods in the device. Once a pod is used, you can twist to use a different pod.
It is important to eventually stop vaping for better health, and strategies such as reducing vaping frequency or nicotine strength gradually can be effective.
There is debate about whether these devices will still be legal once the ban is imposed, as the finer details haven’t been finalised yet.
Closed Pod System for E Cigarettes
Another option is a closed pod system, which allows you to buy a device and just replace the pre-filled pods. This method is the simplest but the most expensive option out of our suggestions. The beauty of this method is that it is usually the same size and shape as the original disposable, providing a similar experience to smoking traditional cigarettes. An example of this is the SKE Crystal Bar Plus.
Unlike cigarettes, closed pod systems do not produce harmful substances like carbon monoxide, making them a potentially safer option.
So there you have it, a few options for disposable vape users to make the switch once the ban comes into force in the UK. Remember, our online vape shop offers all these solutions to help you quit disposable vapes and find the best alternative for your needs. Whether you choose pod devices, nic salts, or our disposable quit kit, we’re here to support you every step of the way.
