Are Crystal
Bars Safe?
What every UK vaper should know about SKE Crystal devices in 2026: regulatory standards, counterfeit risks plus what the 2025 disposable vape ban means for your next purchase.
Genuine MHRA-notified SKE Crystal products sold by UK-registered retailers meet the strict safety standards set out in the Tobacco and Related Products Regulations 2016. Since the 1 June 2025 single-use disposable ban, original Crystal Bar disposables can no longer be sold in the UK. The compliant successor is the refillable, rechargeable Crystal Plus pod system. Non-compliant copies and oversized puff-count fakes should always be avoided.
The three numbers
every genuine Crystal device carries
If these numbers are not printed clearly on the device or packaging, treat it as non-compliant. These are not marketing figures. They are legal limits written into UK TPD regulation.
Tank capacity
The maximum e-liquid a UK-legal pod or disposable can hold in one unit.
Nicotine strength cap
The legal ceiling for nicotine concentration in any e-liquid sold on the UK market.
Notification required
Every product must be registered and notified before it can be sold legally.
Genuine Crystal products are safer than smoking. Fakes are a different story.
Crystal Bars became one of the most recognisable vape brands in the UK because they did two things well: simple flavour range plus a pocket-friendly shape. That popularity also made them one of the most counterfeited devices on the market. When people ask whether Crystal Bars are safe, the honest answer splits into two very different conversations.
The first is about genuine, TPD-compliant SKE Crystal products. These are produced by SKE (Shenzhen Kangerwang Electronics), notified to the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) and placed on the UK market through registered retailers. Every UK health authority that has reviewed vaping, including the NHS and the Office for Health Improvement and Disparities (formerly Public Health England), has concluded that vaping is substantially less harmful than continuing to smoke. That view is consistent with the 2022 independent evidence review commissioned by OHID.
The second conversation is about counterfeit and non-compliant copies. These are products sold in UK corner shops and online marketplaces under names like “big puff”, “mega puff” or “10000 puffs”. They claim huge puff counts. They often contain more than 2ml of e-liquid. They may carry no MHRA number. There is no independent verification of what goes into them. These are the devices worth being genuinely concerned about.
So what are the risks even with a genuine device?
Vaping is not risk-free. That is also the position of every UK health authority. The NHS advises that vaping is only intended for adult smokers as a tool to stop smoking and that people who have never smoked should not take up vaping. Known and suspected risks with any nicotine vape include:
- Nicotine dependence. Nicotine is addictive whether it is delivered by a cigarette or a vape.
- Throat and airway irritation. A short cough or dry throat is common when starting out especially at 20mg strengths.
- Long-term unknowns. Because modern vapes have only existed for around fifteen years, no one can claim the full long-term picture is understood.
- Second-hand vapour. Current evidence suggests minimal risk to bystanders yet courtesy and common sense still apply.

What changed for Crystal Bars on
1 June 2025
The Environmental Protection (Single-use Vapes) (England) Regulations 2024 made single-use disposable vapes illegal to sell or supply in the UK from 1 June 2025. Here is how the Crystal range adapted.
Original Crystal Bar
Single-use 600 puff disposable. TPD compliant at 2ml and 20mg yet single-use and therefore inside the ban scope.
Ban comes into force
Retailers across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland must stop selling any single-use disposable device.
Crystal Plus launches
SKE releases a rechargeable, refillable pod system. Same flavour profile, fully compliant with the post-ban rules.
Four safety checks
before you buy
MHRA notification number
Printed on the box. If it is missing the product has not passed UK notification and should not be sold.
2ml tank printed on the device
If you see “2000 puff” or “5000 puff” on a pod labelled as UK-legal something is wrong. The legal single-pod capacity is 2ml.
20mg/ml ceiling
Any claim higher than 20mg nicotine for a UK retail product is a clear signal you are not looking at a legal device.
Registered UK retailer
Company number, VAT number and UK address on the site are your baseline trust signals. Dispergo Vaping is registered at Unit 17 Stationfields, Kidlington, OX5 1JD.
